EXCLUSIVE: WORLD RUGBY SUMMIT IN TEDDINGTON
A massive summit of the most important decision makers in World Rugby is due to take place at The Lensbury Club in Teddington next week, Teddington Town has learned.
The movers and shakers from both the Northern and Southern hemisphere will gather on the banks of the the River Thames for an important three day meeting which has been described as the ‘Davos of Rugby.’
Top coaches including England’s Steve Borthwick and Scotland’s Gregor Townsend will put in an appearance but most of the attendees will be the Chief Executive Officers and performance coaches of their own national rugby unions.
The high level discussions come right in the middle of the Six Nations tournament but involves representatives of every rugby-playing nation.
The summit has the umbrella title of The Shape of the Game and will be discussing many of the pressing issues surrounding the laws of the game including safety and making the game more entertaining through the flow of the match and the effectiveness of the shot clock.
The over-riding aim is a ‘law review process that enables the sport to make agile decisions to positively impact spectacle and safety.’
Key discussion points will be to ‘consider the latest playing and fan engagement trends to identify ways to enhance the spectacle and fan experience while maintaining our unwavering focus on player welfare’ across all levels of the game from men and women’s high performance, the professional game and leagues and community/grassroots rugby too.
The various committees will be charged with recommending generic law and game amendments and World Rugby, chaired by former England captain Sir Bill Beaumont will consider the outcomes at a later date.
