A dolphin was spotted and filmed in the River Thames near Teddington Lock today (sat)

Earlier in the day a pair of dolphins were seen near Richmond.

Morgan Nossiter  who works at the popular riverside cafe Flying Cloud, managed to secure a short film clip of the creature.

She also captured a photo of  a dinghy near Teddington Lock within five metres of the distinctive fin of the dolphin this afternoon.

A RSPCA spokesperson told Teddington Town: “

“We are aware of these dolphins and really appreciate that people want to make sure they’re safe.

“We are ready to provide appropriate assistance if requested

“It is not unusual for dolphins to find their way into harbours or rivers such as the Thames and they have been known to travel inland quite some distance.

“They are usually just looking for more food and generally they find their way out to sea again.

“We ask the public to do their bit and behave considerately to the dolphins.

“It’s important that disturbance is kept to a minimum, to maximise the chances of them returning to the open sea under their own

Recently, a seal has been photographed on a pontoon at Sunbury marina and two years ago a minke whale become entangled in the rushes near the cafe.
