EXCLUSIVE – D-DAY ANNIVERSARY PLANS FOR BUSHY PARK
The Friends of Bushy and Home Parks will be holding special events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, it was announced today.
The events on 9 and 9 June between 11am and 3pm will be held in a marquee near SHAEF Gate with a display of artefacts and information about Camp Griffiss, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) and the headquarters of the US Eighth Air Force, which occupied Bushy Park between 1942 and 1944.
Camp Griffiss is where General Eisenhower finalised the plans for D-Day, and the US air force planned and coordinated the strategic bombing campaigns in Europe.
There will also be two guided walks around the memorials on each day, activities for children and a Friends’ stall giving general information about the park.
