The new long-awaited lifts at Teddington Station are due to be operational in October, Network Rail told Teddington Town today

The lift towers in Station Road and Victoria Road are virtually complete and are now connected to the 0verhead bridge across the railway line.

The two lifts will help disabled passengers, parents with prams and passengers with heavy baggage who currently face a 20 minute walk from one side of the station to the other if they find difficulties with the 52 step stairs

The lifts will also make it much easier to switch between platforms.

The £3.6 million project, led by contractors Balfour Beatty, started in September last year and was originally due to be finished in June.

Network Rail made significant efforts to minimise noise disruption in the local area during the building project.
