NEW WEEKEND CLOSURE FOR TEDDINGTON LOCK FOOTBRIDGES

Work continues on the ramp at Teddington Lock footbridges
The wooden temporary ramp will be replaced next month

The two footbridges across the River Thames at Teddington Lock will be fully closed from 8pm on Friday 11th October until 6am on Monday 14th October, it was confirmed today.

The full closure is required to allow the contractors to connect the new ramp to the main bridge structure and remove the temporary ramp, which has been in position during the summer.

A Richmond Borough Council spokesperson said: “We will be working 24/7 over the weekend to ensure all the necessary works are completed so we can reopen on the Monday morning.

”Over the weekend there will be lots of activity and some unavoidable, noisy works during the day and night.

“This is the only option to keep the closure to the weekend, avoiding disruption to commuters and schools during the week.”

The bridge route is massively popular amongst commuting cyclists as well as school children, dog walkers, joggers and ramblers.

Despite the disruption caused by the extensive works the riverside cafe, The Flying Cloud, the nearby pub with a large riverside garden, The Anglers, The Tide End pub and The Boat Shop are all open for business as usual.

The Council has previously announced overnight closures of the bridges this month from 8pm until 6am from Monday to Friday for two weeks from 16th September to 20th September and 23rd September until 27th September to waterproof and resurface the bridges.

If you have any issues with the bridge works you can contact the project team directly at teddingtonbrudges@richmond.gov.uk or call 020 871 6668
