FREE GRIT TO BEAT WINTER WEATHER

Free grit and salt available to combat freezing weather

With the sudden arrival of Arctic weather local residents are being offered free bags of grit and rock salt as part of Richmond borough council’s annual winter initiative to tackle snow and ice.

The council is offering residents the option to collect up to 50kg of rock salt from the its depot in Langhorn Drive, Twickenham.

The rock salt is available for collection from Monday 18 November until Friday 22 November between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

As the depot is a secure area, visitors will need to sign in at the gate reception –  ensure you have photo ID and proof of address upon arrival.

In addition, the winter gritting service, which runs from October to April, will continue to keep main roads clear of snow and ice and ensure entrances to important public buildings remain accessible.

The council says: “We use precautionary gritting from October to April to prevent the build up of ice on selected roads.”

Council gritters will be out in force to make the roads safe across the borough
