SUPERSTAR BEVERLEY KNIGHT SET TO SELL-OUT THE ROSE THEATRE

Superstar of stage and theatre Beverley Knight is preparing to set The Rose Theatre in Kingston on fire with a stunning new musical in May, it was announced today.
The theatre will host the UK Premiere of George Brant’s Marie & Rosetta, starring Olivier Award-winner Beverley Knight (Sylvia, The Drifters Girl) as Sister Rosetta Tharpe and directed by Monique Touko (School Girls, The Boy at the Back of the Class).
The story centres on Mississippi in 1946. Sister Rosetta has changed the face of gospel music with her exuberant, electric guitar-playing style.
Shunned by strait-laced church folk for performing in nightclubs and glorying in rhythm and blues, she’s persuaded the saintly young singer Marie to join her on a tour of the segregated southern States.
But first she has to convert Marie’s pure Sunday sound into something that has just a little more swing…
‘Mighty music-making… when it sings, it really swings.’
