POLICE QUIZ MAN OVER FATAL DOG ATTACK ON DEER

Police released this photo of a man and his dog at the time they were appealing for witnesses

EXCLUSIVE

A man has been interviewed by Royal Parks police following the dog attack in Richmond Park, which led to the death of a deer, we can exclusively reveal.

The shocking incident happened on December 2 and police released photos and video footage of a man and a dog.

At the time the dog owner was said to have just ‘walked away’ despite drivers in the park witnessing the dog giving chase for several minutes before attacking the deer.

Following the attack the Royal Parks amended their description of the dog from a Springer Spaniel to a large Munsterlander breed.

It is understood the man, believed to live close to the Park, voluntarily made himself available to be interviewed by the police.

The evidence will now be reviewed to assess whether further action can be taken.

The Royal Parks Police said: “As a reminder, it is illegal to allow dogs to chase deer. Dog walkers must ensure their pets are under close control at all times and if there is any doubt about their temperament or recall ability, then keep it on a lead.”

Recently, a local campaign has been launched to save The Royal Parks police which could face being disbanded because of swingeing cuts to the Metropolitan Police.
