The riverside at Richmond was underwater today making both The White Cross pub and the Slug and Lettuce inaccessible for a lunchtime drink or meal.

A park bench was turned into an island alongside a sculpture and visitors captured the unusual images with their camera phones.

Rowers battled against the fast-flowing river but the floating restaurants and bar The Peggy Jean was cut off from customers.

High tide was at 14.38 at 4.58 metres and low tide was not due until 21.59 at 0.57 metres.
