Exclusive: TEDDINGTON RAILWAY STATION LIFTS OPEN TOMORROW – FIRST PHOTOS
The lifts at Teddington railway station will finally open tomorrow after significant delays, (Fri) we can exclusively reveal.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Our repair works have finished and the Teddington station Access for All lifts will be open to the general public tomorrow.”
The two lifts in Station Road and Victoria Road will help travellers with disabilities, older people and those with heavy luggage as well those with children in buggies and save a 20 minute walk to reach the opposite platform.
The opening was delayed last year because of faulty repair parts and local MP Munira Wilson and the Teddington Society had expressed their concern.
The £3.6 million project, led by contractors Balfour Beatty, started in September 2023 and was originally due to be finished in October last year.
A testing period was due to take place over Christmas to check the lifts were fully operational but engineers discovered a fault with the hydraulic rams, which generate movement to raise and lower the lift in the shaft.
Specialist engineers were called into order the parts to enable the lifts to open this month.
Teddington Town has led the way in reporting the progress and the lack of progress of the lifts becoming operational and improving accessibility for so man passengers.
