Premier League Brentford’s top defender Nathan Collins visited Teddington School to meet students as part of Sustainability Week.

During the event, students took part in the filming of a Brentford kit handover, where they discussed the excitement of receiving football kit as young players and had the opportunity to ask questions about Nathan’s life as a Premier League footballer.

Collins, an Irish international defender, is a key player for Brentford FC and has represented Ireland at senior level since 2021.

He said: “There’s a lot more to life than football and it’s important to connect to the local communities and environment – it’s a nice thing to do.”

Known for his commanding presence in defence and his impressive ability on the ball, Collins made history in 2022 by becoming the most expensive Irish footballer when he transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers before later joining Brentford.

They also heard from the Brentford Community Team about the club’s commitment to sustainability, particularly their decision to release a new kit every other season rather than annually, helping to reduce waste and promote responsible production.

The event was captured by Sky Sports, with students contributing to important discussions on the future of sustainable football.

Head teacher Paul Grills said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to meet a professional footballer, learn about the environmental impact of the sport and represent Teddington School on a national platform.”

Recently the school was ranked by The Sunday Times as one of the top 50 happiest schools in the UK.  (See the school’s latest newsletter here, Teddington School Newsletter | Smore Newsletters for Education)
