VITAL WORK RESTARTS AT TEDDINGTON LOCK GATES
Work restarted today on the Teddington lock gates following concerns from the RNLI about possible delays in rescue operations.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Like any lock, those at Teddington won’t last forever without maintenance.
“The repairs are part of a more extensive programme of lock improvements on the Thames.
“Barge Lock remains open, and we continue to work with users, including RNLI, to ensure safe and swift passage.
“When fully operational, Teddington Launch Lock will provide a more robust and reliable service for navigation.”
The spokesperson added: “We paused the work because as well as needing locks to work for boaters, our maintenance has to provide good value for the taxpayer.
“Moving the work at Teddington into a wider programme will help us ensure that.”
