ALL SAINTS CHURCH KINGSTON PRESENTS ‘RUN FOR COVER’ PLAYING TUNES FIT FOR A KING

Kingston’s favourite cover band Run For Cover is gearing up for their biggest ever gig and fundraising challenge at All Saints Church, Kingston

The event, on Saturday 10th May is supported by Kingston’s own Park Brewery and forms part of Kingston Council’s 2025 programme of events to mark 1100 years since Athelstan was crowned as the first King of England in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Paul Thomas from Run For Cover said: “We always try to support community causes when we can and to be asked to play this magnificent 700 capacity venue is a great honour.

“It’s a bit daunting but we can’t wait to see how tunes from the likes of Oasis, Blur, The Killers, Elbow and Black Eyed Peas sound in its wonderful nave. We met in Kingston and feel proud to be able to represent our home town.”

The Kingston connections don’t stop there with band members and their partners being alumni from Kingston University – an institution Run For Cover marked by playing the last ever gig at
Penrhyn Road bar- and running their businesses from Kingston locations.

In recent years the band have discovered that their 90s repertoire in particular is as popular with their teenage and student offspring as it is with their hardcore fanbase of friends, followers and
local parents.

Reverend Joe Moffatt (All Saints Church) said: “When we saw Run For Cover play a community gig at the Park Brewery Tap Room we realised we should do something bigger. A
huge rock gig fit for both a king and our historic venue. It’s a great opportunity for our community to come together, support local businesses and raise funds to continue our outreach music
programmes.”

Tickets are available for just £15 in advance (no additional fees) with all proceeds going to the upkeep of All Saints Kingston to keep this historic building open for the community.

Run for Cover background: This cover band with a difference has performed close to 100 gigs in more than 15 years. Highlights include the Elmbridge Mayor’s ball 2023, a festival in Wiltshire, countless private parties (indoor and outdoor) and the now legendary annual Christmas kick-offs at The Oak, Kingston.

Formed by Kingston Uni alumni the band is a “not-for-profit” enterprise often playing at reduced rates to help fundraising across a range of charitable causes.

There are 150 songs in the RFC back catalogue with The Killers, Black Eyed Peas, Chic, Happy Mondays, Sam Fender, Simple Minds and Pulp being amongst the most-played artists.

They have never before played a Church with a 700 capacity and are excited by the challenge and opportunity to give back to the local community.

Courtesy of Kingston Heritage: “In 2025 Kingston will mark the 1100th anniversary of the crowning of King Athelstan, the first King of England, with a borough-wide celebration.

Launching in early May and ending in October 2025, Kingston 2025 will help to develop our understanding of Kingston’s heritage, identity and sense of place. It will help us to engage more deeply with Kingston’s communities uncovering and sharing more diverse and inclusive stories. The six month programme is an opportunity to do new things, but also to amplify some of the great things that are already taking place.”
