A spokesperson told Teddington Town: “We are always pleased to support and promote the sport of polo in all its forms – both on and off the horse – here at Ham Polo Club.
“As we approach our centenary season in 2026, it’s a joy to host unique and entertaining events to take us back in time such as Penny Farthing Polo, which reflect the spirit and versatility of the sport.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Neil Laughton and the Penny Farthing Club once again, and we hope to see them back at the club next year.”
Historical note: The penny-farthing, also known as a high-wheel bicycle, was a popular form of transportation and recreation in the late 19th century. It got its name from the large front wheel resembling a penny and the smaller rear wheel resembling a farthing, two British coins. Invented in 1871 by James Starley, the penny-farthing was a revolutionary design for its time, offering high speeds and shock absorption
