EXCLUSIVE:RESIDENTIAL BLOCK PROPOSAL FOR WALDEGRAVE ROAD – FIRST IMAGES
These are the first images of the major development proposed for Waldegrave Road in Teddington which will include eighteen one and two bedroomed flats, it has been revealed.
If given the go ahead is given by Richmond Council the development will be a mixture of nine affordable homes, shared ownership involving half of the properties.
Local architects have drawn up plans for two and three storey buildings on the land behind Waldegrave Motors and a retail unit will be retained in at the front.
Local architect Matt Allchurch told Teddington Town: “The narrow access – 2.5m wide (should be 6 for this type of use) – modern cars are much bigger and the access makes the site unviable for car use.
“We are proposing converting the front building to a shop at ground floor and residential behind and above. In recognition of the loss of employment we are proposing 50% affordable housing. So there will be 9 affordable apartments and 9 market apartments.
“Sustainability is strong with highly insulated apartments, solar panels, lots of cycle parking and a car club space on the forecourt. ”
The full planning application states:
Demolition of existing buildings. Redevelopment of No. 189 Waldegrave Road (Block A) and reduction of commercial floorspace to increase width of site access road and to create one ground floor commercial unit and 3 no. one-bedroom residential apartment.
Erection of Block B (three storey residential block) and erection of Block C (part three storey part two-storey residential block) comprising 15 no. residential apartments (8 x one bedroom and 7 x two-bedroom C3 units).
Change of use of rear parcel of land from light industrial to residentialCreation of a disabled car parking space on the Waldegrave Road frontage. erection of cycle storage and recycling structure; landscaping.
Local residents have lodged thirty seven objections. The apartments – if approved – are expected to cost between £350.000 and £500000 each.
A final decision is expected to be made on June 19.
