FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY AIDS ARRESTS IN RICHMOND

Facial recognition technology has been deployed by the Met police at Richmond station for the first time with the excellent results, it has been revealed.
Officers from Safer Neighbourhoods and Safer Transport, working alongside specialist colleagues, were outside Richmond train station from midday on Friday.
The system is able to scan and identify those passing, identifying subjects wanted for offences, and those with court orders.
No individual images are retained other than those who trigger alerts.
Police say arrests of suspects were made for:
1 x Recall to prison
1 x Personal robbery
1 x Failing to comply with a community order
A number of other individuals were stopped and spoken to due to having current court orders in relation to various issues, which were checked in case of any breaches.
Police said: “A successful day, and 3 offenders removed to custody from Richmonds streets.”
