FIRE DRAMA ON TEDDINGTON TOWPATH (Photo Special)






Firefighters were called to a fire in the undergrowth on the towpath between Teddington Lock and Richmond at about 345pm this afternoon.
Two teenagers told the police their ‘friend’ had set deliberately set fire to the den they had spent two months building in the woods just behind the towpath using ‘deodorant and a lighter.’
They said they ‘didn’t know why he did it’ and gave a name to the two uniformed police officers.
Two firefighters tried to extinguish the flames but there was a danger of it spreading out of control so a full fire crew was summoned.
A police van with two police officers also attended and interviewing the youngsters following by a fire engine and the firefighting team which quickly extinguished the flames.
The towpath was busy with walkers, cyclists and joggers as temperatures reached 21 degrees and the smoke could be seen from the other side of the river.
