HOW THE PARTIES LINE UP FOR LOCAL ELECTIONS

All 54 seats of Richmond Council will be up for election across the 18 wards in the borough on Thursday (May 7)
The Lib Dems, Labour, Conservatives and The Green Party are each standing 54 candidates in Richmond, while Reform has put forward 45 candidates.
A total of three Independent candidates are also standing in the election.
Three councillors will represent each ward, which is why parties are standing multiple candidates in each area.
The polling booths are opened from 7am until 10pm on the day and voters will need photographic ID such as a passport or driving licence.
For the first time the Reform party is fielding five candidates in the Teddington area.
One of the Teddington candidates is a well-known businessman Mark Vellacott, who runs The Beach Gallery in Waldegrave Road.
Over the years Mark says he has seen Richmond swing between the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives and has been a supportive member of both parties.
However, he now feels strongly that ‘reform of both local and national political culture’ necessary, to address issues that have been pushed into the ‘too hard’ basket and soaring local and national debt.
He says one of the most important lessons that he has learnt is that ‘if you want to change a culture, you have to change the people.’
He adds: “The policies and the opportunities for change that Reform are promoting locally, such addressing the Richmond Council’s ballooning debt of £140 million, and focusing on value for money in core services, and saying no to reckless council spending, therefore resonate.
“As well as focusing on road safety initiatives that will make a difference and not just introducing 10 mph speed limit reductions speed limits on main roads.”
