“WE WILL REPAY THE TRUST” SAYS COUNCIL LEADER

The leader of the newly-elected and fully exclusive Liberal Democrat Richmond Borough council has vowed to ‘repay the trust’ shown by voters in delivering all 54 seats to the party in Friday’s election results.
Councillor Gareth Roberts told Teddington Town: “I’m absolutely thrilled that the Liberal Democrats have been returned as the party of government in Richmond Upon Thames.
“And to be given such a compelling endorsement by local residents is an amazing show of confidence in us locally.
“I would, of course like to thank all those who voted for us, and to give a reassurance to all residents that we will govern for all residents not just those who voted for us.
“We remain, as we have been over the last two terms, not only open to challenge and differing views, but, importantly, welcoming of them.
“The coming four years are likely to be incredibly challenging, not least because of the reduction in our core funding by the government, but we hope to meet those challenges head on and repay the trust that has been put in us by residents in every part of the borough.”
