Exclusive: COUNCIL TO INVESTIGATE TEDDINGTON ‘FONE & VAPE’ SHOP SIGNAGE

Richmond Council has opened a ‘planning enforcement investigation’ to check whether the new Fone & Vape shop at 25 High Street in Teddington has broken any rules, Teddington Town has learned today.
Teddington Society has described the front of the shop as ‘cheap and garish’ and its appearance – in place of the Cavan Bakery which closed a month ago – has triggered a wave of criticism across social media platforms.
The lettering is bright yellow on a black background and the shop also offers moble and laptop repairs.
A Richmond Council spokesperson said: “We’re aware of concerns raised about signage at 25 High Street, Teddington and have opened a planning enforcement investigation.
“Our officers are looking into whether advertisement consent was needed in this case and whether the signage complies with planning rules.
“Some types of shop signage can be displayed without formal permission under national regulations, depending on factors such as size and illumination. The investigation will establish the position here.
“We’ll keep the situation under review and take any action needed in line with planning legislation.”
