MP LAUNCHES LOCAL RAIL SERVICES SURVEY
Local Lib Dem MP Munira Wilson has launched a survey asking residents for their views on South Western Railway (SWR) services in our area.
You can respond to the survey here.
The survey follows the announcement by South Western Railway (SWR) that it is conducting the first review of its timetable in over 20 years.
As part of this review, SWR will be engaging with stakeholders – including MPs – to design the new timetable, before launching a full public consultation on the proposed changes at the end of the year.
“The endless problems with rail services in our area have a huge impact on people’s day-to-day lives, whether it’s someone trying to get to work, to school or to medical appointments,” says Munira.
”Whilst timetable changes alone won’t address all of the problems, it’s really important that residents’ views are captured in the initial phase of this consultation.”
Munira has been raising the state of SWR services since she was first elected, with both SWR leadership and with Ministers in Parliament.
Munira has raised residents’ concerns about endless delays and cancellations; the lengthy drama of the faulty lifts at Teddington station; and the urgent need for better services through Hampton, Fulwell and Whitton in particular – especially on Sundays.
Like many people, Munira had hoped that SWR services would improve following its nationalisation in May 2025.
However, statistics show that SWR’s service has actually worsened since nationalisation.
Munira believes it is particularly galling for residents to be paying ever-higher train fares for an increasingly unreliable service.
Residents can share their views with Munira about SWR services here. Munira will then share this feedback with SWR in the stakeholder consultation phase.
The survey will close on 20 June.
SWR will also be hosting an in-person consultation event for residents on Thursday 4 June at Richmond Station from 14:00 – 20:00. More details can be found here: https://www.southwesterntimetable.com/.
