BUSHY PARK MATCHES ALL-TIME TEMPERATURE RECORD

Temperatures have provisionally matched the all-time record for May, according to the Met Office.
It says temperatures at Teddington Bushy Park, in south-west London, hit 32.8C.
The last time a place hit 32.8°C in May was in 1944 at Regent’s Park, Horsham, and Tunbridge Wells.
If temperatures do rise to 35C in the capital, it would make today the hottest bank holiday Monday to date, breaking the previous record of 33.3C, set in August 2019.
There is a strong chance of two consecutive “tropical nights” overnight into Monday and Tuesday. This happens when the temperature doesn’t drop below 20C during the night – which is unheard of in May.
Later in the afternoon the record for the hottest May day was broken, with a temperature of 33.5C recorded at London’s Heathrow airport with temperatures still expected to rise
