BUSHY PARK FISHERS URGED TO BE ‘CAREFUL’ WITH THEIR LINES

The Swan Sanctuary today urged people fishing in Bushy Park to ‘carefully retrieve’ their lines following an incident where an Egyptian goose was tangled up.
The Santuary said; “This poor Egyptian Goose from the Leg of Mutton at Bushy Park had become entangled in fishing tackle around its leg.
“It had been like this for a couple of weeks, with both the park rangers and ourselves making several attempts to rescue it.
“Unfortunately, she was very skittish and would always retreat into the water before we could get close enough.
“Today, I received the great news, along with a photo from the park, to say they had finally managed to catch the Egyptian and safely remove all of the fishing tackle from her leg.
“Sometimes these rescues take time, but we’re so pleased that this one had a happy ending. A huge well done to everyone involved for their persistence and teamwork.”
A Sanctuary official said: “Fortunately this incident ended positively but those who do fish in the parks must take responsibility for their actions and fish well away from the wildlife or there could be tragic consequences.”
