DESPERATE THIEVES ‘TOW’ CASH MACHINE OUT OF THE PAVEMENT IN TEDDINGTON

**Man can be seen trying to gain entry into the back of the cash machine on the right hand side with a hammer on Kingston Road, Teddington**

**A blue car, possibly a BMW, reverses up on to the pavement using its lights to give a better view, to break into the machine**

**Second man exits the driver seat goes to the boot of the car and takes out what appears to be fire-hose like bands which accomplice appears to attach to the machine, very close to the bus stop**

**The car pulls forward quickly tearing a panel cover of the machine in to the air and landing on the road**

**Having torn the door from the cash machine the car reverses again with one of the men appearing to use a hammer to access the machine**

**Female passer-by walks casually by on her mobile phone while the heist takes place**

**The entire ATM machines flies through the air off at speed with the car dragging it into the road**

**One of the thieves stands over the broken paving stones left after the machine is torn from its pavement base and the panel of the machine lies in the middle of the road**

Desperate thieves who used a hammer to try to break into a free-standing ATM cash machine ended up attaching bands to it and ‘towing’ the entire machine out of the ground by car, amazing CCTV footage has revealed.

The daring heist, captured in a remarkable six minutes of CCTV, happened while a young woman walked casually past on her mobile phone and traffic including a single-decker bus passed without stopping.

The incident began when a blue car can be seen reversing on to the pavement and close to the machine outside of a branch of Londis in Kingston Road, Teddington at 0050 on Tuesday morning.

One man, dressed in a black top and jeans with a beanie type hat attached the bands to the machine from the boot of the car. His accomplice, the driver, wore the same.

He appeared to become increasingly frustrated as he used the hammer more and more vigorously to try to smash the back of the machine and eventually the car pulled away dragging the cover the machine down the road behind it.

The man returned to the machine with the hammer but appeared to have no success in extracting any cash and the bands were secured to the machine and the boot of the car.

One of the men stood by as the car pulled away at speed tearing the entire ‘tardis like’ machine from its mounting on the pavement and into the air.

One of the men could be seen, still with a hammer in his hand, standing over the rubble-strewn spot where moments before the machine had stood.

One local resident said: “I couldn’t really understand what had happened because I saw the machine lying on its side on the pavement on Tuesday morning and I assumed someone had crashed into it not tried to take it away!”

Teddington Town has put calls into Londis and the local police.
