RICHMOND’S NEW E-BIKE OPERATOR INTRODUCES THIRD PARTY INSURANCE
Richmond’s new e-bike provider Forest, which has taken over from Lime is introducing third party insurance following several serious injuries which have left victims with big bills and no compensation.
Jansen said that Forest could not afford to pay for third-party insurance when it was founded in 2020, with many providers reluctant to work with a start-up e-bike operator. The new policy will be at no extra cost to users.
Competitors including Lime, Bolt and Santander already include coverage in their price at a cost to the rider of about one third of a penny per minute. Voi, which operates in seven London boroughs, only has third-party insurance for its scooters — a legal requirement — and not for its e-bikes. The company said it was exploring insurance options.
