NEW POLICE WARNING OVER DOORSTEP FRAUDSTERS
Local police are warning of sophisticated fraudsters operating in the area claiming to be governments officials, it was revealed today.
A spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports of individuals going door to door claiming to be government officials carrying out identity checks in advance of a census or other government initiative.
What has been reported?
These individuals may:
✅ Claim to be from a government department.
✅ Produce official-looking identification, letters, or documents.
✅ State they need to verify your identity, take photographs, or collect fingerprints.
✅ Use laptops, biometric devices, or lists containing residents’ names to appear legitimate.
The police added: “Protect Yourself. Please treat any unsolicited request for personal information, photographs, fingerprints, identification documents, or financial details with caution.
“If someone attends your address claiming to represent a government department:
🔹 Ask to see identification.
🔹 Do not provide personal information or documents unless you are satisfied they are genuine.
🔹 Do not allow unknown individuals into your home.
🔹 If you have any concerns, contact the organisation directly using publicly available contact details to verify their identity.
