LOCAL MUSICIAN COMPOSES ‘PROTEST’ SONG ABOUT SHACKLEGATE LANE ALLOTMENTS
It’s an unlikely subject for a song to say the least but not lacking passion….
A campaigning musician has penned a song called the Shacklegate Lane Allotments and the council’s plan to turn them into cemetery space.
James Dylan Thomson was moved to music after hearing the plight of local allotment owners like Paul and Jane.
The lyrics include: “You can make jam from these berries and you can hear the birdsong.”
A petition against Richmond Council’s plan has already received 1700 signatures and attracted coverage in The Times and the local news but the council says the borough is running out of cemetery space.
James, who plays guitar, has performed his song recently at the Teddington pub, The Masons Arms and The Hogarth.
His campaigning creativity was triggered when he heard how local couple Paul and Joy Cuff faced losing their allotment which had become a lifeline providing them with a year round supply of fresh fruit and vegetables.
