POLICE EXTEND DISPERSAL AREA IN RICHMOND

The police tonight extended the ‘authorised dispersal area’ in Richmond because of the throwing of fireworks and other criminal activity.
A spokesperson said; “Due to the behaviour of individuals in Richmond town centre this evening, including the throwing of fireworks, the authorised dispersal area has been extended.
“There are a large number of police resources deployed to enforce this dispersal and deal with crime and disorder.”
Earlier to help prevent anti-social behaviour and keep Richmond Green safe for everyone, a Section 35 Dispersal Order was imposed from 1856hrs on Friday 30th October 2026 until 0700hrs on tomorrow (Sunday 1st November)
The order was introduced following recent incidents involving large gatherings, underage drinking, drug use and the misuse of fireworks.
Officers on patrol on the green this evening have reported an influx of youths, who have stated that more young people are due to attend this evening.
Additional officers from the Autumn nights plan are being deployed to the green and Richmond town centre to enforce this authority.
It forms part of a wider policing and safeguarding operation, alongside youth engagement and diversionary activities delivered with our partners.
Under these powers, officers can:
• Direct individuals causing, or likely to cause, anti-social behaviour to leave the area.
• Require individuals not to return to the designated area for a specified period.
• Seize alcohol from underage persons.
• Seize items linked to anti-social behaviour, including fireworks where appropriate.
Dedicated officers will be on patrol throughout the weekend to monitor and enforce the dispersal order, engage with young people and provide reassurance to residents and visitors.
Please see the attached map showing the authorised area.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep Richmond a safe place to live, work and visit.
