DECISION DAY FOR FUTURE OF FORMER HSBC BUILDING IN TEDDINGTON




A planning application to demolish the former HSBC building in High Street, Teddington, will be decided at a crucial council meeting next Wednesday (Feb 18) Teddington Town can reveal.
The building at 42 High Street, next to the Teddington Arms, has become an eyesore and attracted graffiti since it has been boarded up nearly TEN years ago.
The full application, which can be seen in the council website (24/1492/FUL) proposes demolition of existing building and erection of new building comprising basement, ground and three upper floors (including roof storey), to provide 8 residential flats and up to two retail units.
The proposed development has attracted twenty three written objections, many from residents from Cedar Road.
The council has written to local residents advising they are able to speak at the meeting which takes place at 7pm at York House, Twickenham and the meeting can be seen online.
The council writes: “I write to advise you that the above application is to be considered by the Planning Committee on 18 Feb 2026. The meeting will commence at 7:00pm and will be held in York House, Richmond Road Twickenham TW1 3AA.
“The Committee Agenda and my officer’s report will be available five working days before the meeting on the Council’s website: www.richmond.gov.uk/planning_committee
“The written comments you have already submitted have been included in my officer’s report. Any further written comments will be accepted until noon two working days before the meeting.
“Members of the public are able to join committee meetings virtually to speak on items. They are also permitted to join the meeting in person. Please note that any in person speakers should arrive 30 minutes early to liaise with the committee clerk.”
The Council has a strict procedure for representations to be made by members of the public and applicants to the Committee, including limits to the numbers of speakers.
