The American College football team Arizona State Sun Devils is setting up camp at the Lensbury club in Teddington in preparation for the first Union Jack Classic showdown at Wembley Stadium on September 19, we can exclusively reveal.

The historic match against Kansas Jayhawks marks the first-ever NCAA college football regular-season game played in the UK and the first American football game hosted at Wembley Stadium.

The Lensbury has established itself as a global venue offering state of the art training facilities for top visiting sports team including the All Blacks, Australia, South Africa, the Red Roses, the Lionesses and Manchester United.

Member’s of the Lensbury have been informed about new restrictions of movement around the premises as well as changes to access routes

while the Americans take up residence.

The two universities are virtually unknown to Britain — yet they will walk out at Wembley Stadium to play the first-ever NCAA college football game on UK soil.

American football has made extraordinary waves since first arriving in the UK in 2007, when the Miami Dolphins faced the New York Giants at Wembley.

Now three NFL games take place here every year, split between Wembley and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

College football coming to the UK is not just a sign of how far American football has travelled; it is part of a continued, deliberate American invasion of global sport.

The Big Four — the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB — have all sent games across the Atlantic.

Now it is college football’s turn.

They already play games in Ireland through the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, and this next step is a significant risk

But one that could pay off enormously for the sport.
