Civic Pride launches 21 community groups in one year
An impressive £70,000 has helped 21 community-spirited organisations to get off the ground in the past year thanks to the Council’s Civic Pride Fund.
A digital production which looks at the fascinating history of the iconic Eel Pie Island, a forgotten play by the author of Peter Pan and a plaque to commemorate one of the finest soldiers of the First World War are just some of the projects that have been supported during the past financial year.
Richmond Council’s Civic Pride Fund is made available to groups and individuals who wish to organise a project or event to improve their local area and deliver more for their local communities. Grants of up to £5k are available to groups and £1k for individuals wishing to do so. The grants are allocated on a rolling basis and the same level of funding remains available in the forthcoming financial year.
Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Community, Planning and the Voluntary sectors, Cllr Susan Chappell, said:
“It’s been a fantastic past 12 months for the Council’s Civic Pride Fund which helped so many community spirited groups to get off the ground. The Civic Pride Fund is as popular as ever and we look forward to many more applications throughout the current financial year.”
