The economic downturn has definitely made its mark on the high street with more empty retail spaces than in recent memory. It does seem however that the wealthy local demographic and high footfall are still enticing businesses to the area.
Woolworths closure in January left a prominent position empty but it was only a few months before Dreams bed superstore moved in.
The empty space created by the departure of Sofa Workshop left is currently being refurbished. It was originally intended to be a HBOS but rumour has it there will be now a carpet store moving to the site.
[Update 1st June] the store is indeed being prepared for CarpetRight to move in.
