Local group wins Teddington hydro-power bid
After a five-month wait after proposals were submitted, Ham United Group has finally heard the fantastic news that it has won the bid to develop the hydropower project at Teddington Weir.
The project will be one of the largest river hydro schemes in Europe – generating enough power for 900 homes and raising cash to invest in other future low-carbon projects in the area.
The group has put in a tremendous amount of effort in getting this proposal together since 2006 and aim to create a project that local people can be proud of, as well as local employment and other benefits for the local area.
Clean energy schemes are increasingly important to help meet our future energy needs so pioneering projects such as this one are essential nationally to help develop larger scale solutions.
It is hoped that work (alongside a civil contractor) will start on this project in Summer 2012.
