St John Ambulance celebrates 75 years in Teddington

EventsThis year St John Ambulance are celebrating their 75th year in Teddington and they need your help to fulfill their philosophy: to continue to be able to cover all the local events and deliver first aid to the local community.

Events covered by the group include mini soccer to premier league football, local Teddington to International rugby matches, school fetes, the Notting Hill Carnival and large concerts in Hyde Park! Without their help providing first aid assistance, many events simply couldn’t take place.

The local St John Ambulance ‘Badgers’ (children 5–11) meet to learn first aid and life skills on a Wednesday night followed cadets (11-18 years) who learn more advanced life saving skills, leadership and many other things. It is never too young or too old to learn first aid, their adults range from 18–70! This might all sound like hard work, but members enjoy the meetings and always have fun.

They are now recruiting members, if you are aged 18 years or older, can train locally at least once a month and willing to come out and cover events once trained, then why not come and join? No previous experience is necessary, they will provide you with all the training (including ambulance support for 999 calls) and support you need and a brand new uniform to wear.

If this interests you then why not come down to a recruitment/open evening on Wednesday the 31st October at 7pm. There will then be a chat about what the group does, what is required of a member and you can ask any questions you have. SJA will then show some of their skills and equipment and you will have the chance to have a go yourself.

To find out more information call Iain on 07760142756 or email iain.macgreggor@teddington.sja.org.uk or alternatively just turn up on Wednesday! Another similar session on the 5th December at the same time (7-8:30pm).
