Get involved this Dementia Action Week by learning more about Dementia Friendly Communities Richmond
Richmond Council is inviting businesses and residents to support the borough’s effort to continue to become ‘Dementia Friendly’ by attending one of Age UK Richmond’s events this Dementia Action Week (17-23 May).
A Dementia Friendly borough is an inclusive place where all residents affected by dementia are empowered and supported to live well. This is one of the Council’s key priorities, and businesses and organisations are strongly encouraged to take this opportunity to learn about the changes they can make to support the imitative.
An example of Dementia Friendly Communities Richmond in action is the Friendly Parks for All model, which aims to make the borough’s parks accessible to everyone by installing extra measures such as extra seating and multisensory paths and trails.
Anyone affected by dementia, or any organisations or businesses that are keen to find out how they can help, are encouraged to sign up to the initiative and attend one of the below online events.

Cllr Roger Crouch, the borough’s Dementia Champion, said:
“One in three of us born in the UK today will go on to develop dementia in our lifetime. Dementia care is one of the greatest challenges we face as a society and we need to make changes to that every person living with dementia, and every carer, are supported and can be happy and independent for as long as possible.
“Dementia Friendly Communities Richmond hopes to create communities to make daily living easier and more enjoyable for those living with dementia.
“I am urging all businesses and organisations in the borough to get involved and see what changes they can make to support those living with dementia. Equally it’s so important that we work with those directly affected by the disease, so please do register your interest to be involved as we work towards improving how dementia friendly our borough is.”
