TEDDINGTON’S LANDMARK ARTS CENTRE HOSTS ITS FIRST WEDDING

The  Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington has hosted its first ever civil wedding ceremony, we can exclusively reveal.

The first ceremony and reception with about 150 guests took place in late May and followed several previous delays to the couple’s wedding plans caused by the pandemic.

The historic former church was granted its registration as a wedding venue for civil marriages on February 7th last year although eight wedding receptions were held last year.

The celebrations were on 27th May 2023 and the happy couple were Alice Penfold and Alex Gould. The Registrar on the day was Wendy Miles, a previous employee of the Landmark.

Wedding ceremony set up at the Landmark

Wendy told Teddington Town: “As a previous member of the Landmark team I was delighted to hear that this unique building had been licensed as a civil ceremony venue, joining the many other special venues in the borough of Richmond.

“I was honoured to be given the opportunity to conduct the inaugural marriage ceremony for Alice and Alex in my role as a Richmond registrar.

“The ceremony took place on the stage beneath the beautiful stained glass window and the main hall had been simply but imaginatively decorated and laid out for the reception.

“Chatting to the bride and groom prior to the start of the ceremony it was obvious that they felt the Landmark perfectly reflected their personal style and fully met their requirements for this very special day.”

Landmark Director Harper Ray said: “The Landmark is almost a perfect venue for a wedding because it’s a building you can fall in love with.”

Perfect setting for a perfect wedding

The newly-weds were generous enough to share their views on the new wedding venue in a Q and A session with Teddington Town

Q: Why did you choose the Landmark Arts Centre for your wedding venue?

A: We wanted a venue that was beautiful but we could also make feel informal and relaxed for our guests. We wanted to be able to book our own suppliers and shape the occasion to make it our own special day, which we were able to do at the Landmark.

Q: What was it about the Landmark, when you saw the venue for the first time, that made you want this space for your special day?

A: After visiting, we knew instantly that we wanted to get married in the Landmark. It is the most beautiful building – and all our guests remarked on how visually captivating it was! The massive stained glass windows, the pillars, the high ceiling – we loved them all. We also liked the versality of the space and being able to have both our ceremony and reception in one location, ceremony, drinks, meal, disco all in one place – perfect!

Q: Was it easy to book the Landmark for your special day?

A: Yes – we found the communication really open and easy, and all the staff in administration and help on the day were absolutely fantastic.

Q: Did you look at other venues and if so why did you choose the Landmark over these others?

A: Although we briefly looked at other venues in London, none of them compared to the Landmark.

Q: What do you think the unique selling points of the Landmark are?

A: The beauty of the building and its location, the versatility of the space and being able to book own caterers and suppliers etc, the community aspect of the Landmark. It really feels like a special place and we were happy to be able to contribute to all the good work that the Landmark does.

The venue offers three wedding packages ranging from Bronze, Silver to Gold ranging in price from £1600 to £3200 depending on the number of guests and including the use of the stage, hall and kitchen areas.
