ELECTION WILL BE A ‘CLEAR CHOICE’ SAYS LOCAL MP
STATEMENT FROM LOCAL MP MUNIRA WILSON FOLLOWING ELECTION CALL
Since becoming the MP for Twickenham in 2019, Munira Wilson has been a champion for the local area.
This has included holding Thames Water to account for illegal sewage dumping, and calling on Ministers to scrap controversial proposals to pump treated sewage into the river at Teddington Lock; campaigning to ban Heathrow night flights; and challenging South Western Railway over unreliable rail services.
In her role as Education Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, Munira has fought for better mental health services for our children, expanding free school provision, and pushing for the Government to address the scandal of crumbling schools.
Munira has also been fighting hard for local residents, assisting thousands of people with issues from housing applications to passport delays.
At the last general election, Munira Wilson won the seat with the Conservatives coming in second place and the Labour Party finishing a distant third.
In the borough, local Liberal Democrats have continued their electoral success, wiping out the Conservatives from Richmond Council after by-elections at the start of the year.
The party has also gained significant ground nationally, winning four resounding by-election victories since the last general election.
Responding to Rishi Sunak calling a general election, Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham Munira Wilson said:
“At this election, there is a clear choice: the Liberal Democrats who are fighting for Twickenham or the out-of-touch Conservatives who have taken us for granted. Labour are out of the race here and just can’t win this time.
“Since I’ve been elected, I’ve fought hard to stand up for the people of Twickenham and the issues that matter. I am determined to continue working hard for our area and being the strong voice we need in Parliament.
“It’s clear this Conservative Government has failed Twickenham. After years of pollution in our local rivers, soaring rents and mortgage prices, and our public services being run into ground, it is high time the Conservatives are kicked out of office. “
