HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY TO PARKRUN
Today (wed) marks the 20th anniversary of the parkrun, which first started on October 2nd 2004 in Bushy Park with just 13 runners and 5 volunteers. A 5k run at 9am every Saturday morning.
It has since grown into a global community of more than ten million people, in 23 countries, at more than 2,500 locations.
Communities are encouraged by parkrun organisers to ‘come together’ at their local parkruns in a celebration of this milestone on Saturday 5 October and Sunday 6 October for junior parkrun.
A parkrun spokesperson told Teddington Town: “parkrun is a charity which directly impacts the lives of millions of people around the world.
“It has an ambition to get more children active, to be the number one socially prescribed physical activity across the UK, and engage more and more of those who don’t, and may never, engage with more ‘traditional’ sport.
“We rely on donations, and the generous funding of our strategic and commercial partners. We want every person to have the opportunity to access free and inclusive physical activity in their local community, without barriers.”
