PARK LANE STABLES FOUNDER WINS BIG NEW AWARD
The Founder of the Park Lane Stables in Teddington Natalie O’Rourke has been named as the winner of the The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) 2024 Birt Spooner Cup at its 55th Anniversary Annual General Meeting, it was announced today.
This award recognised her outstanding dedication to enhancing the lives of disabled individuals through equestrian activities.
The award recognises Natalie, who was awarded a MBE and has written a book detailing her journey called Only Heroes and Horses, as a National Coach Developer and County Coach as well as playing a key role in training coaches across the UK.
The citation said: “Her leadership at Park Lane Stables has been vital in safeguarding its future, ensuring the continuation of equestrian therapy for those who need it most.
“In 2021, she led a remarkable fundraising campaign, raising £1.3 million to save the stables from closure, a testament to her unwavering commitment to RDA’s mission.”
Natalie said: “Totally humbled to be the recipient of The Birt Spooner award, there are so many incredible people in RDA I cannot believe that I won.
“I am so proud to be part of the RDA and everyday is a real privilege. I was genuinely shocked to be nominated so when I won I was flabbergasted. I will endeavour to continue spreading the message of RDA far and wide and bringing horses in to as many peoples lives as possible.”
The organisers added: “Natalie’s tireless efforts have made a profound impact on the RDA community, making her a truly deserving recipient of this year’s Birt Spooner Cup.”
