SAD END OF AN ERA – TEDDINGTON BUTCHERS CLOSING DOWN
The famous local family business The Teddington Butcher on Waldegrave Road is sadly closing down, Teddington Town has learned.
The shop had reduced its opening hours to Thursday, Friday and Saturdays because of ‘staff shortages’ but failure to attract new butchers means the long-running Teddington business will close for good at the end of the month.
The Teddington Butcher is the only remaining independent butcher in Teddington.
As well as regular customers the friendly butchers, which used to be called Millers, was the go-to supplier of Christmas turkeys and sold thousands every year. (They do have some turkeys available)
Queues to pick up the Christmas fare stretched around the corner in the few days before Xmas and customers were offered a free mince pie and coffee while they waited.
“This is just a dying trade, sadly,” one of the staff said today.
The website for the butchers says: “A family business, bringing you the finest quality meat, poultry, game and produce. We source from trusted, specialist farms & suppliers with a proven track record for quality & high standards of animal welfare.”
The family business has also faced stiff competition from local supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Marks and Spencer.
