IT’S GOODBYE FROM JOKER JOE
Harlequins and England rugby hero and renowned joker Joe Marler will play his last game tomorrow night (friday) when he leads out the team at The Stoop in front of a capacity crowd against Bristol Bears.
Joe, 34, is retiring from all professional rugby after a stellar career in which he won 95 caps over 12 years with England – winning three Six Nations Championships – and 204 appearances for Quins winning two Premiership titles and the European Challenge Cup.
His sense of humour and his various stand-out hairstyle has helped him transcend the rugby community to create his celebrity status and he has even joked about wanted to join Strictly Come Dancing.
At the final whistle, Joe will address the fans personally from the pitch which will undoubtedly bring the crowd to its feet and trigger a massive round of applause in recognition of his brilliant career.
He has said in a statement: “The time has finally jump off this rollercoaster and walk awa y from this beautifully brutal game. On Friday night I’ll pay my last ever match for Quins. After all these happy years, it’s over.
“I fee lucky to have pulled on the jersey worn by so many idols of mine, and so many better players. That’s an incredible thing to me. I got to stand alongside so many great players and people that have made this club so special.”
