The Teddington-based Mighty Convoy which has been delivering humanitarian aid to the Ukraine frontline sets off on its NINTH mission tomorrow, Saturday.

Three vehicles with a crew of six have been loaded up in Cambridge Road with syringes, bandages, catheters, paracetamol and ibuprofen which will be taken to the Christian Medical Association Ukraine HQ in Lviv.

The aid has been donated by the UMAUK, The Ukrainian Medical Association of the United Kingdom.

Military commanders and aid officials will then decide how best to deploy the vehicles but the emergency evacuation of both soldiers and civilians from the frontline has become a major issue as Russia continuers to advance in certain areas.

Mighty Convoy has successfully raised £24000 to buy the three vehicles – two Isuzu D-Max and one Mitsubishi – at auction and organise the latest trip which will be led by Gavin Emsden from Hampton.

His five fellow travellers, who will share driving duties for the 1251 mile road trip are Eric Bruce, Jonathan Wax, Austin Elwood, John Vowles and Tom MacDowell. They hope to arrive at the border late Sunday afternoon.

Gavin told Teddington Town: “When the war first started I saw the heartbreaking scenes on television and felt I had to do something to help.

”When you have seen at first hand how you can make a difference it is very humbling and you realise every little bit helps.

”When you meet the people out there who are working so hard to support both the soldiers and the civilians, you realise you must do something to support their efforts.”
