TEDDINGTON ORGANISER OF UKRAINE MERCY MISSIONS RECEIVES SPECIAL MEDAL


The Teddington organiser of the Mighty Convoy humanitarian missions to Ukraine has received a special award in recognition of his significant efforts.
On their latest trip delivering over 10000 food pouches for struggling civilians and soldiers on the frontline, Simon Brake was presented with a special medal.
In an emotional ceremony Simon told the Ukraine welcoming group of military commanders and officials; “I promise we will carry on doing as long as we can and as long as you need us.
“Ukraine is in our hearts so we stand with Ukraine.”
The cross-shaped medal carries an inscription saying ‘Volunteer of Ukraine’ and by ‘The Call of the Soul.’
He was also presented with a painting of a woman – in traditional Ukrainian blue and yellow colours – from the Mariupol region who had lost her soldier husband in the conflict.
In presenting the gifts, the military commander thanked the group for their support which had helped soldiers. civilians including many children and said he hoped the war would end this year.
Simon, who lives in Cambridge Road, Teddington, led the tenth convoy delivering much-needed humanitarian aid in five ambulances to Lviv last week.
The vehicles are paid for through fund-raising and left in the country to be deployed as best thought fit by the the military leaders involved in defending the country.
