POLICE MAKE AN ARREST AFTER 83 YEAR OLD WOMAN ROBBED AT RICHMOND CASHPOINT

Local police have arrested and charged a man after a 83 year old woman was knocked to the ground at a cashpoint in Richmond and robbed of £250.
According to the police the incident took place on 27 January at around 15:53. The suspect took the money and ran towards Eton Street.
Officers immediately began multiple CCTV enquiries and secured a key third‑party witness account.
On 30 January, the suspect was spotted by off-duty police sergeant Wright, whose quick actions enabled South Richmond officers to attend and make the arrest.
In a social media post the police said: “On Tuesday 27th January inside the Nationwide Building society, an elderly lady was forcefully pushed to the floor by a suspect, who then ran off with £250 that she had withdrawn.
“I’m sure you’d all agree this was a hideous, cowardly and despicable crime to have been committed against an 83 year old lady.
“She is also recovering from a hip operation last year and this is her fist time being out in public since then.
“Today whilst off duty, I was walking along George Street and recognised the suspect brazenly strolling along towards Pret A Manger coffee shop.
”Some of my team were on duty in the town centre today and whilst talking to them, I alerted them to the suspect. I’m very happy to report the suspect was swiftly arrested for robbery and CID are taking ownership of the matter.
”Obviously a harrowing experience for the victim but the suspect is now in police custody whilst enquiries continue.”
The police said: “ Our thoughts remain with the victim, and we want to thank the community for their support throughout this investigation.”
