One of London’s leading fishmongers is to set up shop on the site of the iconic local Sandys Fishmongers in Heath Road, Twickenham, Teddington Town can reveal today
The company, MOXON’S which has been in the business for THIRTY YEARS, has three other shops in Clapham South, East Dulwich and South Kensington and has its own smokehouse in Wimbledon which supplies the shops with their own smoked fish, award-winning fish pies, fishcakes and sauces.

Owner, Robin Moxon told Teddington Town: “We know we have big shoes to fill in Twickenham and Sandys has become a very famous fishmongers and business well beyond the borders of Twickenham but we are proud of our own reputation and hope we can fill the big gap left by Sandys especially with the support of the local community.
“We have total respect for the fantastic business and service Sandy’s offered to their customers and we hope to follow in their footsteps.”
The company’s website states: “Dictated by seasonality and sustainability, we buy our fish and shellfish directly from all corners of the British coastline – from Newlyn to Shetland, via much of the South and East coasts, the Gower Peninsula in Wales and up to Peterhead in Scotland.
“Our wealth of knowledge in the industry, combined with the trust we have built with the specific boats we buy from means we have the pick of the finest quality British fish and shellfish landed each day.”
The owner and manager of Sandys – a traditional family business – Stuart Sandys, 52, died suddenly in November last year and the family made the heart-breaking decision not to reopen.
In an open letter to customers at the time from Stuart’s mother, Jill and sister Helen, said:
Dear loyal customers and friends
“This is a very difficult post to write as we know that everyone has been coming to terms with the sudden loss of Stuart, Jill’s son and Helen’s brother. Over the last weeks we have been working on finding solutions to save the company.
“Unfortunately, we have reached the inevitable conclusion that, without Stuart, the business cannot and should not continue. It is with heavy hearts that we have reached this outcome and are announcing that Sandys will not be reopening.”
