TEDDINGTON WOMEN AIM HIGH…… AND SET UP THEIR OWN DARTS LEAGUE

The global boom in interest in DARTS has officially reached Teddington with the launch of the Teddington Women’s Amateur Darts League (TWADL) with six young women leading the march at The Builder’s Arms.
The ‘Luke Littler effect’ has been partly responsible but the massice success of women players like Fallon Sherrock and Beau Greaves has dramatically increased the number of players and transformed it from a niche pub sport into massive revenue-generating live sport event with sell-out audiences.
The Teddington women are hosting a ‘taster’ evening at The Builders on June 9 (7pm-9pm) where anyone is invited. “No experience or equipment required. Zero expectations or competition. Just a willingness to turn up, have a laugh and give something new a go.”
The Teddington team aim to encourage more women to set up their own teams and to form their own local league, including Twickenham and Kingston.
And there will be free pizza!
The Teddington Women’s Amateur Darts League (TWADL) was formed in January 2026 when a group of six women – ranging from early 20’s to mid 50’s; neighbours but not yet friends – were in The Builders.
Hannah Dees, an avid sports enthusiast, was there to watch the final of the World Darts Championship from Alexandra Palace. JoJo, Penny, Vicki, Lucy and Rosie were completely new to the wonderful game.
“We somehow struck up conversation, Hannah explained the basic rules of darts over a pint or two, and by the time Luke Littler had lifted the trophy we’d agreed to start a women’s darts team,” said Penny.
“The six of us meet every Wednesday at The Builders Arms, Teddington, where Barry the brilliantly supportive landlord reserves the board for team practice. Our newfound love of darts and dedication to improving means that we regularly get together on other evenings too, where we welcome others to join us for a sociable game, and drink, or two.
“Whilst we started with two simple thoughts: ‘why shouldn’t women have a darts team in their local pub?’ and ‘why can’t women be as good at darts as men?’ TWADL has quickly become about something far greater: friendship, community, confidence and creating a space where women of any age or background can come together, try something new, and feel that they belong.
“In a world where loneliness and disconnection are so common, building community in simple, local and unpretentious ways feels more vital and valuable than ever.
“TWADL has brought together a group of women through nothing more complicated than turning up, having a laugh and giving it a go. We are by no means experts, but that is not the point. You do not have to be excellent at something for it to become important.
“Our mission is simple: to encourage women in neighbouring areas to set up social darts teams, in order to cultivate meaningful female friendships and communities with no barriers to entry. Simultaneously, we aim to support local pubs and venues, many of which are facing closure, by bringing in a wider demographic and increased footfall.”
