The Queen’s Birthday honours full list has been announced to our delight includes Teddington Station’s Alan Hopgood.
Ticket office manager Alan has been receiving recognition for his dedicated and humour-laden service to customers at the station by winning the regional, then national finals of the National Railstaff Award.
He will be receiving his MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to public transport. MBE’s are awarded to those who have made an outstanding service to the community that merits public recognition.
More info and interview with Alan can be found here and ‘Mr Teddington’ article in the Richmond & Twickenham Times.

Well done Alan. He deserves it.

Excellent news! Congrats to Alan. A fantastic chap. We bought tickets from him yesterday and in retrospect he seemed a little shell-shocked, only charging us £15, and not his usual cheery “That’ll be fifteen MILLION pounds please!”. That’ll be why then.

Well deserved, but I think it is an MBE.

Well done, that man! What Alan doesn’t know about ticketing and travel simply isn’t worth knowing. A well-deserved award indeed.

Well done to Alan! Really well-deserved. He remains a hero in our house after rescuing a much-loved soft toy from the rails after our son dropped it when getting onto a train. He is always so pleasant and friendly, and we all appreciate it hugely.
