Parkrun invites friends and family for RunFree event
On the 29th of May parkrun events around the country will be held to encourage members to bring along their family and friends to also take part.
The ‘Run Free’ festival is modelled on parkrun’s anniversary events and supporters are being asked to bring along their own cakes, sandwiches and blankets to celebrate the run and spread the word about this fantastic weekly meet.
Newcomers are always welcome and will find the friendly service that all participants experience each week as well as the great motivation from the group run in a fantastic Royal Park venue and the swift online results service. Note: new runners must pre-register and print their own bar code before turning up on the day.
UK Athletics has confirmed its backing for the Parkrun events that are growing in number around the UK. parkrun has come a long way since the first races took place almost 6 years ago in Bushy Park with only a dozen runners – now more than 500 fans turn up each week. Other parkruns take place in Kingston, Richmond Park, Wimbledon Common, Roundshaw Downs and Banstead Woods.
Parkrun is run by local volunteers and provides an informal friendly environment that encourages fitness, well-being and making the best use of local green spaces. Runners can take each race as seriously as they wish to and participants vary from the serious personal-best chasers to casual runners with dogs!
The events remain free due to sponsorship from Nike, Sweatshop, Lucozade Sport and The London Marathon.
