Teddington and Hampton Wick Voluntary Care Group

NewsAs Christmas is a time for giving, it might be a good time to mention the local voluntary care group.

This winter is going to be much colder than usual and this can make getting out and about more difficult especially for the very vulnerable. If you find it difficult to get out for shopping, you can call the group and they may be able to put you on one of their shopping buses. They are keen to let people know that they should never be afraid to ask!

They also provide a prescription-collection service, arrange visits for housebound people who are in need of company and provide advice and information on a range of topics. Residents across the country are currently being prompted to keep an eye on elderly neighbours to ensure that have all their necessary supplies during the cold snaps especially when prolonged snow cover occurs.

Age Concern’s Handyperson low-cost service is invaluable to disabled and over 60’s – helping out with light repair jobs and maintenance in their homes with such tasks as changing lightbulbs & washers, putting up shelves, fitting new locks or light switches etc. Tradesmen can help out with these tasks for £30 an hour – giving peace of mind that they are trusted and that the vulnerable won’t be charged over the odds for basic tasks. Age Concern’s number is 0845 601 1149.

The group’s latest newsletter containing the above, additional info and details of outings can be found here.

They are a registered charity and operate from the Methodist Church on Stanley Road – donations and volunteering enable their valuable work to continue – they have been providing this to the local community for over 35 years now. Volunteers are always needed for car drivers, shoppers, bus escorts or general help at their coffee mornings (as well as cake-bakers!). Donations can be dropped off or sent via post.

You can get in touch by email office@tedcare.org.uk or phone 020 8943 3112 (office hours Monday to Friday 9:30 to 11:30am).
