High Street Update
Despite many new businesses opening on the high street at the latter half of 2010, this year is already showing us that the tough times aren’t quite over yet after a tough Christmas trading.
Closing down sale posters are currently in the window of British Bookshops & Stationers but the store might not actually have to close. The group entered administration a week ago and they have until this Tuesday to find a buyer – there is considerable interest. Some head office jobs have already been lost to make the company look more profitable to potential buyers. 300 staff are currently employed over the head office and 51 stores in the south of England.
Kidz Rule toy shop is already closed and Marks Water Garden is currently has a closing down sale.
Elsewhere Laurel.S salon is now open for business after a delayed launch (due to building problems) – call 020 8891 6656 for appointments.
Ellis Fine Country Foods is now open on Sundays from 11am-4pm and continues to delight its customers with home-made foods and treats. Ellis is also gearing up for Valentines Day – available gifts include handmade chocolates, personalised cakes, hampers and desserts.
Happy Potter Ceramics now have some regular events in the calendar – a dedicated Mummy & Baby coffee morning on Tuesdays and a ‘grown-ups’ evening on the first Thursday of every month (7-10pm) with the next on February 3rd.
New high street vets vet4life will open for business on Monday 31st January with the official opening on Friday 11th March with Vince Cable.
Physio and Therapy continue to keep us as fit as possible – they have added to their suite of activities Yoga classes on Thursdays at 7pm and Saturday 10:30am. 90 minutes of physical and mental disciplines for £12.50. The instructor has arrived from LA and trained with some big names in the US. Physio’s next 5km in 5 weeks programme starts in February – aimed to get budding runners ready to join bushy parkrun.
